Some 400 at Grace Community Church steak night

A former law enforcement official spoke to approximately 400 men who gathered for dinner and his presentation at Grace Community Church.

The second annual Mens’ Steak Night was organized by the church. It featured guest speaker Bob Vernon, a retired assistant police chief of the Los Angeles Police Department whose career spanned more than 37 years.

He focused on character traits he said all men should pursue.

“There’s three kinds of love in the Bible. For one the Greek word ‘Agape’ is used, and it’s a love of choice. It’s not gushy. It’s like ‘I don’t know you, but I’m willing to risk my life for you because I’m a police officer and I’m sworn in to do that.’ So it’s a love of choice. ‘I don’t have a warm fuzzy feeling for you, but I’ll lay down my life for you.’ So I’m telling the guys that’s the way they ought to be toward their wives or their kids — sacrificial,” said Vernon...
