No campfires will be allowed anywhere in the Sierra National Forest beginning Monday, due to extreme fire danger resulting from a very dry winter, forest officials announced Thursday.

In addition, stoves and lanterns with shut-off valves that use gas, jellied petroleum or pressurized liquid fuel will be allowed only in authorized campgrounds and identified areas if the operator possesses a valid California Campfire Permit, officials said.

Smoking will only be allowed in enclosed vehicles and within authorized recreation sites.

These fire restrictions will continue until further notice...
