Shots fired near school

An argument between two known gang members erupted into gunfire late last week, near James Madison Elementary School on Stadium Road. No injuries were reported. Madera police arrested parolee Gregorio Rosas, a 34-year-old known gang member, near south P Street, after chasing him several blocks.

The incident happened Thursday afternoon, shortly after students had been dismissed from school, according to Madera police Sgt. Gino Chiaramonte.

The fired shots went astray and could have struck anyone at that time of day, Chiaramonte said, especially kids using the sports fields, or motorists on the heavily traveled Olive Avenue.

“It began in the area of Maple Court and Stadium just before 4 p.m., as a verbal confrontation between two gang members. The two knew each other, and it was not related to anything at the (nearby) schools or kids. There were still after-school sports going on at the baseball fields. (The shooting) just happened to occur near there,” Chiaramonte said...
