A Hispanic man believed to be in his 30s lay hospitalized Sunday after being shot and left for dead, according to authorities.

The victim, who name has not been released, was found near Avenue 12 and frontage road Business 41 in Madera County.

The call to law enforcement came in around 7 a.m., said Erica Stuart, Sheriff’s Department spokeswoman. The access road was shut down to all traffic for roughly four hours. An ambulance took the victim to an area hospital.

“More information will be released when it is made available,” Stuart said.
