Madera County narcotics agents discovered then destroyed 70 marijuana plants and 360 pounds of the drug packaged to be sold Wednesday in a house less than half a mile away from two public schools, authorities announced.

Madera County Narcotic Enforcement Team (MADNET) agents spent hours discarding the plants, spokeswoman Erica Stuart said, which were found after authorities served a search warrant at a home on Indian Springs Road in Oakhurst.

The house was roughly 2112 feet from Oakhurst Elementary School, and 1056 feet from Oak Creek Intermediate School, Stuart said.

Nine people were found living in the three-bedroom, two-bath home, Stuart said, but no arrests were made and she didn’t wish to comment as the investigation continues...
