Sheriff turns to Internet to identify body

Sheriff John Anderson announced Monday that the Madera County Sheriff’s Department has turned to an Internet database to identify a man whose body was found naked in an olive orchard four days before Christmas.

The National Missing and Unidentified Persons System, or NamUs, website is a database that stores information about missing persons and those yet to be identified in the U.S. It can be accessed at www.namus.gov.

After exhausting all avenues in an effort to identify the man found near the southwest corner of Avenue 7 and Road 34 on Dec. 21, the department is no closer to identifying him.

“It’s as though this man never existed before his death,” Anderson said...
