The Madera County Sheriffs Office issued a release Thursday evening that asked for witnesses to come forward in the death of 17-year-old Tara Shannon Maguire, whose body was discovered submerged in a stream in the Sierra National Forest earlier this week.

Two men, both self-described regular users of methamphetamine, were arrested on felony child cruelty charges related to Maguire’s death when they were found by search and rescue teams around 4:30 p.m. Monday.

Scott Jacob Mason, 20, of Simi Valley and 18-year-old Jacob Patrick Banaga of Visalia were reportedly on a multiple-day meth binge before Maguire’s body was found.

Both men remained in Madera County Jail on $10,000 bail Thursday night...
