A Stockton man allegedly caught stealing a girl’s pink bicycle in Madera over the weekend has been linked to vehicle and ID theft in San Joaquin County, the Madera County Sheriff’s Office reported Monday.

Sheriff’s spokesperson Erica Stuart said a witness saw Luis Armando Ortiz, 25, take the bike from the backyard of a home on Golden State Blvd. after noon on Saturday.

The witness got into their car and followed Ortiz as he rode the bike to the nearby Pilot Truck Stop, Stuart said.

Sgt. Mark Stritzel of the sheriff’s office made contact with Ortiz, who had gotten rid of the bike, but admitted to taking it because his “feet hurt,” Stuart said...
