More than 100 women may have been used as prostitutes

Two Madera men were arrested after a police investigation concluded they were running a prostitution ring and possibly a human trafficking operation out of an apartment in the 200 block of West 8th Street near H Street, a Madera police sergeant said.

The men, both immigrants, were arrested 2:30 p.m. Tuesday after undercover officers raided the apartment. Two women were also arrested, Sgt. Robert Salas said.

Alejandro Hernandez-Ortiz, 30, of Mexico, and Jose Garcia, Jr., 38, reportedly of Guatemala, were charged with felony facilitation of prostitution and more charges are likely pending as officers dig deeper into the operation, Salas said. Both were placed on Immigration and Customs Enforcement holds.

Salas, commander of the Community Response Unit and Gang Task Force, said a tip from the public led to the investigation of the men and surveillance of the apartment where the alleged prostitution was conducted...
