'Seussical': Madera South High School production opens tonight

There are many weirder things prancing around the Madera South High School theater stage than Thing 1 and Thing 2.

As a cast of more than 60 rehearsed Tuesday for tonight’s opening of “Seussical” the musical, Madera South Theater Co. students and alumni sharpened sound and lighting technicalities. A bright green, yellow and orange staircase led The Cat in the Hat, the Grinch, Horton the Elephant — and many other unusual characters created by Theodor Seuss Geisel, better known as Dr. Seuss — up and then down.

The musical combines many of his stories, but is always overshadowed by Horton the Elephant from “Horton Hears a Who!” The two-hour “Seussical” includes about 30 songs.

The Cat in the Hat, played by senior Jordan Sheets, narrates the musical but also jumps in to stir trouble at times...
