The Madera Community Food Bank will give away fresh fruits and vegetables to seniors Thursday morning at Town and Country Park as part of its popular senior nutrition program.
The Senior Nutrition And Produce Program (SNAPP) was cancelled last year and only lasted a few weeks in the 2010 season due to money shortage, officials said.
The program was supposed to start April 9 after the nearly two-year hiatus, but the food bank had an issue with its produce supplier and could not secure adequate fruits and vegetables to start the program, said food bank director Ryan McWherter.
The first giveaway will be at Lions Town and Country Park from 7 to 9 a.m. Thursday, weather permitting. The food bank is asking that eligible seniors bring their own bags or carts to transport the food...
