Second-year member earns Bronze star

Jake Dowell is a second-year member of 4-H. He has recently earned his Bronze Star.

He is 9 years old and in the fourth grade at Spring Valley School in O’Neals. He has two older brothers, Josh (17) and Jared (15). Jake joined the Dixieland 4-H Club in 2009 as a mini member. Jake moved to Coarsegold and joined Spring Valley 4-H in 2010 as a mini member. He is currently serving as the 2012-2013 Sergeant At Arms for the Spring Valley 4-H Club. He has been involved in several projects including mini gardens, dairy goats, meat goats, and veterinary science.

Jake enjoys showing his goats at the local fairs. He recently attended the Madera District Fair. There he showed six dairy goats. Jake won Junior Dairy Goat Showmanship. He had the Junior Champion and Reserve Junior Champion dairy goats. He also showed three meat goats at the fair.

Jake likes working with animals. He has learned a lot about vet science in 4-H. With the help of his family, Jake manages the health of his goats and pets. He dehorns, vaccinates and treats his animals when needed...
