Students to give speeches during ceremony

The life of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. will be celebrated in a ceremony at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at the Madera middle school bearing his name.

A reception will precede the event at 2 p.m. with cookies, cupcakes and punch provided by the MLK Local Host Committee. There is no admission fee for the annual celebration at Martin Luther King Jr. Middle School, 601 Lilly St.

Madera students will give speeches addressing the 2012 theme, “Answering the Dream: What Can I Do?”

Madera County Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Cecilia Massetti will introduce the following speakers: Shahroz Ahmed, sixth grade, John Adams Elementary; Mogaolia Chang, 10th grade, Madera South High; Rachel Curtis, eighth grade, Thomas Jefferson Middle; Kaylee Dawson, sixth grade, Lincoln Elementary; Jacob Schroeder, seventh grade, Thomas Jefferson Middle; and Husnar Tanver, seventh grade, Thomas Jefferson Middle...
