BAKERSFIELD (AP) — Authorities say they evacuated students and staff from a Bakersfield high school after finding an explosive device in a student’s locker.

Kern County Sheriff’s spokesman Ray Pruitt said deputies found a plastic bottle with some kind of explosive powder in a locker at North High School on Friday morning.

The Bakersfield Californian reports that investigators believe a 15-year-old boy made the device and brought the bottle to school. The boy is cooperating with investigators.

Students reported the device to staff after the boy talked to his peers about it.

Classes at the school resumed after 10 a.m.
