Dozens of ambitious Madera High School students were awarded more than $260,000 in scholarships this week during a ceremony that honored their commitments to academic and athletic success.

In total, 66 students received 172 individual awards from 77 groups or businesses on Monday, counselor Julia Lomas said.

“I think this group was just a very eager bunch,” Lomas said of all the scholarship recipients. “Handing out the invites they were very, very excited to receive money for their higher education and obviously we are proud of all of them.”

While most of the scholarships came from local groups or businesses such as Sunrise Rotary of Madera or JBT FoodTech, Lomas noted that a few outside agencies brought forth impressive awards…
