Schoettlers will be grand marshals of Old Timers Parade

Tom and Ila Schoettler will be waving to spectators Saturday morning as grand marshals of the annual Old Timers Parade.

The parade will start at 10 a.m. at Flume Street and Yosemite Avenue, and proceed west along Yosemite, crossing Gateway Drive and past Courthouse Park. After the parade, a festival, Old Timers Day in the Park, will feature vendors and the awarding of prizes for parade entrants.

The Schoettlers have supported the youth of Madera, from the children’s annual Easter Egg Hunt to high school sports and youth teams. They also have contributed to dozens of community betterment activities and programs for years.

After serving his country in the Navy following his graduation from Madera Union High School in 1950, Tom returned to Madera to work at the family tire business, and eventually became the owner of Schoettler Tire...
