Scammers bilk woman out of $500

The Madera County Sheriff’s Office issued a computer scam alert to the Central Valley on Friday, warning the public of a fraudulent company operating out of France, claiming to be associated with Microsoft.

Scammers saying they are with a company called are calling local residents, claiming to be in association with Microsoft, telling residents that a virus has been detected in their computers.

The caller convinces the consumers that the only way Microsoft can fix the problem is to download new anti-virus software for $499.99.
