'Rumors' unfold: Coyote production opens Friday night

Howls of amusement will likely be heard as a Coyote Drama Productions cast performs Neil Simon’s “Rumors” for the first time Friday.

Set in New York City in 1988, the play begins in the home of the deputy mayor who shot himself in the earlobe in a botched suicide attempt.

Mayor Charlie Brock and his wife Myra were set to host a tenth anniversary dinner party that evening, but as their affluent guests arrive they find chaos and develop a farce rather than a celebration. The first couple to arrive at the Brock home, Chris Gorman (played by Kirsten Haupt) and her husband Ken (played by Matthew Daly) open the play with screams and panic.

As other guests begin to arrive to the sitting room, lots of mixed stories and rumors begin to unfold. Fearing scandal, the strung-out group of friends struggle to create possible stories to tell the police, all of which seem far-fetched...
