Rollover results in DUI arrest

A Madera man was arrested on suspicion of DUI, Sunday afternoon after rolling his pickup truck end over end through a fence and into an orchard on Road 28 1/2, just south of Western Way, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The pickup bounced down a steep embankment before striking a newly planted almond tree and flipping over in the soft dirt.

Officer T. Gibbs said Juan Manuel Maciel, Jr., 31, was northbound on Road 28 1/2 about 4 p.m. when he lost control.

“No other vehicles were involved. He said he reached down for his cell phone and when he looked up the truck was almost off the roadway. He over corrected, went down the embankment, and flipped the vehicle. He was wearing his seatbelt and wasn’t ejected or seriously injured,” Gibbs said...
