Madera High School is closer to vying in a world robotics competition as its MadTown Robotics Team 1323 won the regional finals over the weekend, one of three Valley schools to do so.

The third annual 2014 Central Valley Regional competition in Madera South High School’s gymnasiums hosted high school robotics teams from in and out of the state.

MadTown Robotics, the only high school robotics team in Madera, and its allied teams, Duncan Dynamics of Duncan Polytechnical High School in Fresno and Buchanan Bird Brains of Buchanan High School of Clovis, lost to a three-team alliance from Atascadero and San Jose.

But the defeat was a narrow one, said MadTown Robotics Team 1323 captain Aaron Tesei, who is confident Madera will qualify for the world robotics competition during the Silicon Valley Regional next month...
