In a major project of Love Madera Day, the Vern McCullogh Fresno River Trail saw nearly 500 volunteers arrive to clean up the trail and riverbed and make landscape improvements.
Coordinating the project was Parks Planning Manager John Scarborough of Parks and Community Services.
Part of Saturday’s effort took place on the trail from Granada Avenue to Road 24 in the west. It included trimming trees, spreading mulch, weeding and pulling stakes from dozens of trees that were planted two years ago. Work on the west end of the trail saw more than 150 volunteers with no particular club or agency represented.
