Thousands of firefighters battling a massive blaze within Stanislaus National Forest continued to make significant progress in containing the fire’s wrath Tuesday, which prompted one county close to the inferno to lift all evacuations within its border.

The Rim Fire was 75 percent contained after having charred 235,841 acres of land by Tuesday afternoon, the U.S. Forest Service reported.

Full containment of the conflagration is expected by Sept. 20.

At last count, the inferno has cost California more than $39 million as more than 4,300 personnel remained on the job to build fire lines and perform other tasks, the forest service said...
