Lois Yakligian retired from her job as a secretary for Dixieland Elementary School 26 years ago. Today, she continues to work with students to help them succeed in and out of the classroom. Every week for nearly three years, Yakligian has visited Millview Elementary School to read to a group of third graders.

“Her soft, gentle voice captivates the students’ attention,” said Rosalinda Galvez, principal at Millview.

Yakligian’s lessons don’t end when she gets to the last page.

“She not only reads to the students, but applies a life lesson to their young lives,” said Galvez...
