Clover, the young poodle-mix dog found tied to a post with a tight rope embedded around its neck has died of tetanus.
The dog was thought to be recovering well in a foster home when he took suddenly took a turn for the worse. The dog was put down Tuesday night to prevent further suffering.
The suffering dog was reported Dec. 19 by a good Samaritan in the 300 block of Harding Street, according to authorities, and was taken into protective custody by City of Madera Animal Control officers.
The officers said the year-and-a-half-old male dog had been tied to the post for months with a rope, which began cutting into his neck as he grew and pulled on it over the months. The rope had likely been placed on the dogs neck when he was a puppy, and never loosened or checked, they said...
