In dire need of capital improvements, a local shelter was the fortunate benefactor of a huge contribution. The Red & Nancy Arnold Foundation awarded $500,000 to the Madera Rescue Mission.
It was the largest donation that the Madera mission received since it was established in the 1980s.
It was certainly a welcomed blessing for Mike Unger, who is the executive director for the Madera mission. It provides emergency housing for 100-plus people and serves more than 300 meals per day.
“We are going to be forever indebted to the Red & Nancy Arnold Foundation because there are things that needed to be addressed and this money will allow us to address that,” Unger said. “We have no shortage of needs and we have a number of improvements that needed fixing, patching, etc.” ...
