Republican women promote patriotism

Three students from Madera High School made a clean sweep of the Madera Republican Women’s essay contest on “Why Voting is an Act of Patriotism for 18 Year-Olds.”

Aubrey Holt, Athziri Flores, and Taylor Rollins won 1st, 2nd, and 3rd places, respectively. Each of the winners received cash prizes. Holt got $75, Flores received $50, and Rollins took home $25, and then got a real, live lesson in the current political scene from Sherrie Bell, the Tulare County Chair of the Romney for President Committee.

All three essay winners are students in MHS history teacher Mike Hinton’s class.

The winners were each introduced, and excerpts from their essays were read at a meeting of the Madera Republican Women Federated General Meeting in the dining room of the Madera Municipal Golf Course...
