It was a sold out event at the annual Fourth of July Golf Tournament held at Madera Municipal Golf Course. By 8 a.m. Friday morning, 144 golfers had signed up to participate.
“This is the greatest turnout for this tournament ever, so have a great time and thank you,” said Mayor Robert Poythress, who opened the tourney and entered his family as a team in it.
The tournament featured competition for the Mayor’s Trophy between city council and city staff. This year’s trophy was earned by the council with a team of Gary Svanda, Brett Frazier, Andy Medellin and Andrew Medellin who defeated the city staff team of Mary Anne Seay, Steve Frazier, Brandon Frazier and Nancy Koerperich. The overall winning team was Team Lexus of Steve Williams, Ted Miller and Miguel Manzo.
Players received a tote bag full of goodies, including snacks, a pedometer, T-shirt and gift certificates. The entry fee also included breakfast burritos with salsa and bottled water.
