Most people don’t give a second thought when eating that bowl of rocky road ice cream or taking a bite of a protein bar as to where the product comes from.

Some of those products have a direct link to Madera through Ready Roast Nut Company, formerly known as Madera Quality Nut until 2007.

Ready Roast processes a variety of nuts and then ships them to companies that use them in their products — such as ice cream, trail mix, and almond milk — which consumers then buy at the grocery store.

Ready Roast primarily processes almonds, Madera County’s top grossing crop, but also specializes in other nuts. Director of operations Dave Wissing said they get the nuts through a handler and then they do the cleaning, slicing and roasting and then send it on to a customer...
