Ranchos accident featured in national magazine

As Martha Tessmer had family and friends visit her on the sixth anniversary of the death of her son, Donovan, Road & Track Magazine featured his car accident.

The magazine published a special report entitled “Overwhelmed and Undertrained” and used the Madera Ranchos accident from July 8, 2007, as its subject. The report is featured on the front page of the magazine’s website (www.roadand track.com) as well as its August issue.

The publication contacted Tessmer and the driver in the accident, Danica McCall (Lacy) through Tessmer’s employer, Impact Teen Driver, Tessmer said. “They interviewed us in January and took photos in May.”

The report focused on McCall and her inexperience at the wheel of her car. Although she was known as the granny driver by her friends, McCall succumbed to the peer pressure of her friends during a drive home after watching a movie. She then lost control of her car, which hit a tree. Three passengers, who were unbuckled, were ejected from the car, killing Donovan, Lacy’s boyfriend, instantly, and seriously injuring the other two...
