On the corner where Olive Avenue sweeps into Madera Avenue sits a tractor dealership that has been serving the needs of local farmers for 62 years. Quality Machinery Center is the successor Massey Ferguson dealership to Newcomb Tractor founded by Elvan and Eleanor Newcomb in 1951.

“Eleanor still cares very much about this tractor business,” said Brian Potter, QMC vice president and general manager, about his landlady.

The Madera store, acquired in September 2009 and managed by Madera native Bret Mercer, is one of four dealerships in the chain founded in January 1980 by Debra Boling and her late husband Darrel. QMC has two stores in Hanford and its original store in Tulare. Looking to the future, QMC will consolidate the two Hanford stores into a new location next year.

“We are thankful for the continued business from the Newcombs' customers,” said Mercer. “Had Quality not bought this business, there would not have been a Massey Ferguson dealership today. They did a great service to Madera.” ...
