Police seek two after shooting of man in car

Madera Police are on the hunt for two men after a known gang member, who was riding in the passenger seat of his girlfriend’s car, was shot twice earlier this week.

The shooting took place minutes before 7 p.m. Monday in the 500-700 blocks of North G. Street.

Detective Sgt. Robert Salas said the 21-year-old victim is a known member of the Sureño, or southerners street gang and was targeted after he “exchanged gang signs” with two young men at the corner of 4th Street and Gateway Drive.

“The driver reported she was turning on 2nd street from Gateway when she saw a light-colored car accelerate towards them and heard multiple gunshots after the incident with the two minors,” Salas said. “Her boyfriend appeared to have sustained gunshot wounds, pushed her out of the vehicle and then drove himself to the hospital.” ...
