Police seek help with shooting

Madera police officers are on the hunt for a thin Hispanic male, age 16 to 20, after witnesses said he walked up to a parked car at Town and Country Park and opened fire, unloading four rounds at the male and female couple inside it.

Detective Sgt. Robert Salas with the Madera Police Department said authorities were investigating the shooting, which took place around 9 p.m. Thursday on Industrial Avenue near Commerce Drive.

“The suspect approached their car and for some unknown reason began to shoot at the two people inside,” Salas said. “At this point, we’re conducting further investigation and contacting witnesses.”

Salas said the shooting did not appear to be gang related though all possibilities were being looked into, including the chance the suspect may have accidentally shot himself during the attack...
