Police to issue permits to carry guns

The Madera Police Department will start issuing concealed-carry gun permits after a vote Wednesday by the City Council.

Police Chief Steve Frazier on Thursday said he asked the council’s permission to begin issuing permits as a convenience for citizens and as a statement of his own support for the 2nd Amendment to the Constitution, which confers the right to keep and bear arms.

The Madera County Sheriff’s Department also issues gun permits, and has done so for many years.
