As summer comes to a close, the Madera Police Department will join law enforcement agencies throughout the state to step up DUI enforcement, as more inebriated drivers take to the streets, authorities announced Tuesday.
Beginning Friday through Sept. 2, MPD will increase the number of officers on patrol as well as DUI checkpoints.
“The end of summer and Labor Day weekend is traditionally a time to have fun,” Sgt. Johnnie Smith said. “Don’t let it turn into a time of tragedy or jail visit by driving impaired by alcohol or drugs. We will be out looking for those making that unwise and dangerous choice.”
