Police arrest 10 in prostitution sting

A large-scale prostitution sting conducted by the Madera Police Department earlier this week brought in an illegally-modified firearm, nine suspected prostitutes including a transsexual man, and one allegedly violent pimp with a long criminal history who authorities said should be locked up for at least five years.

Detective Daniel Foss was one of the lead organizers of the operation that ran from noon to 8 p.m. Thursday. He said the purpose of the sting was to arrest someone “exactly like” suspected pimp Keshaun Robinson, a 20-year-old multiple felon who claimed membership in a Fresno subset of the infamous Crips gang.

“Pimps are very, very violent,” Foss said. “It’s rare that you’ll get a prostitute that’s not beaten up. They control the girls … it’s complete control, something that’s almost unbelievable to the public how a pimp controls these women.”

Foss said that prostitutes often come from troubled backgrounds and that the operation was targeted towards catching pimps because they are the source of prostitution offenses...
