Police are searching for missing Madera man

Madera police are requesting the public’s help in locating an at-risk, 56- year-old man, Sabas Dela Cerda, who disappeared from his home in the 500 block of Clinton Street and has been missing since Dec. 31.

Madera police detective Sgt. Robert Salas said the situation is urgent because Cerda is not likely to be able to protect or adequately care for himself. Foul play is not suspected at this time, Salas said.

“According to his sister and caretaker,” Salas said, “he is developmentally disabled with the mental capacity of around 12 years old, and has no teeth. He is able to speak English and Spanish. He is 5’6”, 170 pounds, with short, all-white hair. He was last seen wearing a burgundy sweatshirt, black pants and black tennis-type shoes. She is very concerned about his safety,” Salas said.

Salas said Cerda reportedly disappeared once before and may be attempting to reach Los Angeles or possibly even Mexico, where family members live...
