Residents who picked up plants from a local exchange hope they will enhance and beautify their home gardens.
The second annual Plant Give and Take, organized by Community Volunteers Central Valley, drew nearly 100 people to the southwest end of Lions Town and Country Park on Saturday.
Those who needed to get rid of their greenery dropped it off and people who were looking for plants of their own picked them up for free. Organizers said they were pleased with the event turnout and the increase in attendance from last year, where only about 30 people showed up.
“We got a great response from the community. This is what we hoped for. We’ve had more people this year because we had wonderful publicity from the newspaper and lots of word of mouth. Also because we moved it a week later this year. Instead of having it on the first weekend of October when Day in the Country takes place, actually helped us,” said Margie Reisz, co-chair of the event and secretary-treasurer of Community Volunteers Central Valley...
