Plane makes emergency landing

A plane flown by a Fresno flight school student made an emergency landing in a Madera County field near State Route 99 Thursday afternoon, an official from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) reported Thursday.

The plane, a single-engine Piper aircraft, touched down in an open field on the north corner of Avenue 12 and Road 28 around 12:30 p.m. said Ian Gregor, public affairs manager for the FAA’s Pacific Division.

Neither the student flying the plane nor the instructor were injured in the landing, Gregor said, but the plane itself suffered substantial damage and workers were seen repairing it Thursday.

The plane is registered to Mazzei’s Flying Service, a flight school at Fresno Yosemite International Airport that deals primarily with foreign students...
