Two on high-centered truck jump and run just before engine hits

A pickup truck high-centered on top railroad tracks was hit by a southbound Amtrak train near Road 28 1/2 and Ellis Street, according to the California Highway Patrol. No injuries were reported.

The collision occurred Friday night about 10:30 p.m. Train crews said the passenger train was traveling about 80 mph, a standard speed for the open section of the track. and had 89 people aboard.

Officers said the two male occupants of the Chevy truck were seen to get out just seconds before the impact.

The men may have been drinking when they tried to drive the four-wheel-drive pickup east across the railroad tracks on a dirt path...
