Philip, Carmen Gallegos to be crowned Sunday

The Madera County Historical Society has announced the selection of Philip and Carmen Gallegos, who represent almost 160 years of service to Madera, as this year’s Old Timers’ King and Queen.

Their coronation, which will be the centerpiece of the society’s annual ice cream social, is planned for 5 p.m. Sunday in Courthouse Park.

Madera is not only the birthplace of the new king and queen. It is also where they raised their five children, earned their retirement, and supported local businesses and organizations.

Philip and Carmen, who celebrated 60 years of marriage Aug. 30, have been involved in their community throughout those six decades. They have been perpetual parishioners of St. Joachim’s Catholic Church, lifetime members of the Madera County Historical Society and charter members of California School Employees Association...
