A 43-year-old woman attempting to across southbound State Route 99, just south of Avenue 24, was struck and killed shortly after 6 a.m. Friday, according to the California Highway Patrol.
No other injuries or collisions were reported.
The driver had apparently run out of gas, left her red Chevrolet pickup in the northbound lanes with its flashers on and walked to a nearby gas station in the darkness, just prior to being killed.
Officers did not release her name, pending notification of next of kin...
