Parkwood water deal OK’d

It’s a temporary fix, but likely a welcome one too, as the Madera City Council this week approved an agreement with Madera County to provide a secure water supply to some 602 Parkwood homes.

However, even with a solution in store, as part of the 10-month agreement’s terms all outdoor watering is still prohibited in the unincorporated subdivision for around 3,000 residents as well as its park and school.

The agreement took three weeks of back-and-forth negotiation between city and county staff in order to placate the council’s concerns about grant funding and the county’s commitment to drill Parkwood a new well, even if no state money is received.

County staff remain confident $850,000 in grants will be approved by the state, and said it’s simply a matter of moving through the bureaucratic process before the funds flow in...
