The shell of the Mammoth Orange, a remnant of the historic highway hamburger stand, will be sold to the San Joaquin Valley Paleontology Foundation for use at the Fossil Discovery Center in Fairmead.
The City of Chowchilla bought the giant fruit-shaped shell when the burger joint that sat off State Route 99 in Fairmead went out of business.
At last night’s city council meeting, the Chowchilla council voted 4-1 in favor of awarding the bid to the Paleontology Foundation.
