Pair allegedly stole $400 in fuel

Two Madera men have been arrested on grand theft charges for allegedly stealing at least $400 worth of fuel from a ranch on Avenue 13 near Road 23, county authorities said.

Mario Estevan Valdez, 28, and Alonzo Ramos, 32, were arrested after a weeklong investigation, said sheriff’s spokeswoman Erica Stuart.

Gas started disappearing from the ranch on March 31. It took relentless legwork of Ag Crimes Detective Adam McEwen and Deputy Luis Padgett to find the suspects, Stuart said.

Sheriff John Anderson said the agricultural community deserves some credit for the arrests as well...
