As someone who’s been there herself, actress Grace Lee Whitney spoke to Maderans of the life-spiraling consequences of alcohol and drug addiction and finding a way out.

Whitney spoke for about 45 minutes to 25 churchgoers and guests, who were sometimes solemn and other times humored, at Bethel Southern Baptist Church on Saturday.

Best known for playing the role of Yeoman Janice Rand in “Star Trek: The Original Series,” Whitney went on to work in theater, films, television and music.

She talked about her childhood, a troubled adolescence and making her way into show-biz, which along with fame and prominence brought her more difficulties including an addiction to alcohol, nicotine and drugs...
