Golden Valley Unified School District board president Mona Diaz has thrown her hat into the proverbial ring, running for the District 1 county supervisor seat to be vacated at year’s end by incumbent Manuel Nevarez.
More than 30 candidates are looking to represent Madera County in a variety of offices and have filed the paperwork necessary or announced intent to run in the June election.
Nevarez, appointed by Gov. Jerry Brown to the spot last year, announced last week he would not seek election in order to spend more time with his family.
In a brief phone call Thursday, Nevarez endorsed Diaz for his job and said she was “the only candidate who has been tested” in the seven-member race...
