Officers honor Coarsegold man for bravery

Nathaniel Chase, 22, of Coarsehold was named Madera County’s Hero of the Year.

Chase, a recent college graduate with a nursing degree, risked his own life to help protect another, said Madera County Sheriff John Anderson and Lt. Dave Paris, commander of the Madera Area California Highway Patrol.

Anderson and Paris nominated Chase for the award, which was among 37 handed out Wednesday by the Fresno and Madera Counties Chiefs’ Association at the 23rd annual Citizens Awards Ceremony in Clovis.

Some of those nominated were recognized for community spirit and volunteerism. Others, like Chase, were chosen for acts of courage and heroism...
