The Madera County Cattlemen’s Association has chosen Daphne Norman to receive a $1,000 Millie Meders Merit Scholarship.

Norman, a 4.0 GPA student from Yosemite High School in Oakhurst, intends to major in agricultural business at California State University, Chico.

The scholarship’s namesake, Meders, was raised and lived in Madera County until her death in May.

“Millie was an agriculturist who devoted many hours to her community in activities that benefitted Madera County’s youth,” said Michele Lasgoity of the association. “Millie was strong advocate of education and supported many scholarships that enabled students to pursue higher education, especially in the area (of) agriculture-related studies.”
