North Fork man caught trying to bury stolen car

A 35-year-old North Fork man was arrested Sunday afternoon after trying to bury a stolen and stripped car, said Madera County Sheriff’s spokeswoman Erica Stuart.

After authorities received a tip around 12:30 p.m., Shane Anthony Shaffer was found at a home on Wyle Ranch Road in North Fork with a 2013 silver Ford Focus that had been reported stolen out of Tulsa, Okla., officials said.

Deputy Jeff Noland saw a bulldozer at the home, along with the Focus that had been stripped of its tires, door panels, and parts of its dashboard, Stuart said.

Shaffer, who said a friend left the car on his property, was booked in Madera County Jail for possession of stolen property with bail set at $10,000.
