Encarnacion Hernandez

Mr. Encarnacion Hernandez, age 55, a native of Mexico and a resident of Madera for 35 years passed away on Monday, February 9, 2004 at a Madera hospital. He was a farm laborer for 20 years. Mr. Hernandez was a Eucharistic Minister for St. Joachim Catholic Church and he loved the outdoors, which included hunting and fishing, but his family was always first in his life.
He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Rosa Hernandez of Madera; five sons: Ricardo, Alex, Hector, Fernando and Marcos Hernandez, all of Madera; two daughters, Socorro Avila and Rebecca Hernandez, both of Madera; two sisters, Maria Villalobos of Mexico and Patricia Vega of Madera. He was the grandfather of 12.
Visitation will be on Thursday, February 12, 2004 from 1:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at Jay Chapel in Madera. A vigil services will be on Thursday, February 12, 2004 at 7:00 P.M. in Jay Chapel. Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday, February 13, 2004 at 9:00 A.M. at St. Joachim Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery.
David Sherrow

David Sherrow, 28, a resident of Fresno and former resident of Madera, passed away tragically on Saturday, February 7, 2003 as a result of injuries suffered in a motorcycle accident in Clovis. David was born in Anaheim, CA, and lived the majority of his life in Madera County, where he graduated from Madera High School with the class of 1994. David later attended Merced City College. In Madera, David was employed by Purl's Sheet Metal working in air conditioning and sheet metal fabrication for seven years. For the past three years, David had resided in Fresno, where he was employed at Kelley Moore Paints the last year. David was a motorcycle enthusiast and an outdoorsman, enjoying motorcross, camping and surfing. In Madera he played on the Madera Avenue Bible Church baseball team.
David is survived by his parents, Dorlene De Cesare and her husband A. Michael De Cesare of Madera, his father Walter Sherrow and his wife Carol of Acampo, CA., his grandmother Dorothy Farinelli of Madera, and his brother Robert Sherrow of Madera. He is the step-brother of Eric Sargeant and Jaime Miller, both of Fresno, and the nephew of Rick and Janet Farinelli and Patti Farinelli, all of Madera, and George and Diane Sherrow of Los Angeles. David is the beloved uncle to Sydnee and Samantha Sherrow of Madera, and the cousin to Tricia Birdwell, Steven Farinelli, Michael Farinelli, and Daniel Sherrow.
Visitation will be Wednesday, February 11, 2004 from 1 to 8 PM in Jay Chapel with a Vigil Service at 7 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday, February 12, 2004 at 11 AM in St. Joachim Catholic Church of Madera, with interment following in Calvary Cemetery of Madera.

Dorothy Belle Stevinson

Mrs. Dorothy Belle Stevinson passed away on Friday, February 6, 2004 at the age of 95. She was a native of Wauseon, OH, a former resident of Watsonville, she resided in Madera for 10 years and most recently a resident of Fresno for the past three years. She was a member of the Madera United Methodist Church and the Order of the Eastern Star. She enjoyed cooking, gardening and the art of letter writing.
She was preceded in death by her husband Donald D. Stevinson.
She is survived by her son, Donald Stevinson of Fresno, her grandchildren Scott Stevinson, DDS of Madera and Michael James Stevinson, DDS of Fresno. She is the great grandmother of Jeromy Tarkon of Fresno, Kristen and Alexa Stevinson both of Madera and Michele and Douglas Stevinson both of Fresno.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, February 12, 2004 from 1:00-8:00 PM. at Jay Chapel in Madera. Funeral services will be held on Friday, February 13, 2004 at 11:00 AM at the Madera United Methodist Church in Madera. Graveside services will be on Tuesday, February 17, 2004 at 11:00 AM at the Pajaro Valley Memorial Park in Watsonville, CA.

Maynard G. "Andy" Anderson

Maynard G. "Andy" Anderson, passed away in a Madera Convalescent Hospital, on Monday, February 9, 2004 at the age of 73.
Andy was born in Grace City, North Dakota on January 10, 1931, later to move to Washington where he graduated from High School. Originally coming to California to be a telegraph operator for the Southern Pacific Railroad, Andy later went to work for Westside Pump Company in San Joaquin, California, spanning a career of 34 years with the firm, retiring as manager in 1992. The company is now known as Westside Pump/Rain for Rent. Andy received an AA degree from Fresno City College. In Madera Andy was a devoted member of The Harvest Community Church, and was a member of the Madera Elks Lodge #1918 B.P.O.E. and was a former member of the Fresno Yacht Club, spending many hours on Millerton Lake. Andy volunteered at Madera Community Hospital and at his church for several years.
Andy was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 48 years, Betta J. Anderson in 1999, and by two brothers.
Andy is survived by his daughters, Dianna Higginbotham and her husband David of Aptos, CA., and Patsy Rodriguez and her husband Lupe of Madera. He is the brother of Dewey Anderson and his wife Billie of Everett, Washington and Robert Anderson and his wife Donna of Snohomish, WA. He is the beloved grandfather of Michele Quintana and her husband Joe, and Shanna Balbas and her husband Sam, all of Madera, Steven Rodriguez of Salinas, Sean Higginbotham of San Diego and Kelly Higginbotham of Fresno. Andy was the proud Great-Grandfather of Jonathon Balbas and Kyle Balbas.
Visitation is Thursday, February 12, 2004 from 1 to 8 PM In Jay Chapel. A funeral service will be Friday, February 13, 2004 at 10:30 AM in Jay Chapel, with interment following in Arbor Vitae Cemetery in Madera.

Arletta Dement
Mrs. Arletta Dement, age 83, a native of Chowchilla, CA and a resident of Madera for 78 years passed away on Friday, February 6, 2004 at a Madera hospital. She was a LVN for 20 years working at Madera Convalescent and Madera Community Hospital. Arletta will always be remembered for her smile and her dry wit. She had a great love for Bingo.
She is survived by her son Bill Reinitz of Orland, CA, Daughter Arleene Reinitz Haywood of Los Banos, CA, Brother Arthur Olivas of Madera, CA; four Grandchildren: Brian William Haywood of Bakersfield, CA, Mark Ernest Haywood of Fresno, CA, Roger Reinitz of Navato, CA and Monica Reinitz of Turlock, CA. She was preceded in death by her husbands and three sons: Donald Ernest Reinitz, Richard Louis Beban and Douglas Mark Beban.
Private Cremation services were held under the direction of Jay Chapel.

Kassandra and Kasara Barajas, infant daughters of Angela and Alfonso Barajas II of Madera passed away on Thursday, February 5, 2004 in Madera.
Beside their parents, the girls are survived by their brother Andrew Barajas of Madera, paternal grandparents Alfonso and Anna Barajas of Madera, Great-Grandfather Tony M. Flores of Madera, Maternal Grandparents Patricia M. Tijerina of San Jose, CA, Step-Grandfather Frank Tijerina of San Jose, CA, Great-Grandmother Juana F. Rodriguez of Kingsburg, Grandfather Joe A. Marcias of Madera and Great-Grandmother Ascencion Macias of Fresno, CA.
Graveside Services will be on Friday, February 13, 2004 at 2:00 P.M. at Calvary Cemetery in Madera.
